10 year high school reunion this last weekend. It sucked.
88 beans per person and no free drink tickets. The food was mediocre. The meat might have been cooked nicely, but too much time on the steam tables while I was sitting there with a plate waiting for the food to be opened up late made it eh.
I had friends in high school, I'm sure of it. They can't all have been imaginary. I remember late nights in the theatre, griping about cramming for finals, and playing cards at lunch a lot with nice folks. Not many people that I knew were there, though. It was really cool seeing the few folks there that I did know, but if I'd wanted an evening to remember how effortlessly beloved my friend Julia was by the people at my high school while I wandered around being bored, I could have opened one of my shrieking, self-esteemless, angst-ridden teenage journals. If I wanted an evening of shitty acoustics and shrieking without being able to hear myself or anything said to me, I could have stayed at home and jammed chopsticks through my eardrums for free.
I don't dig loud parties with people I don't know unless I'm drinking heavily, covered in glitter, and the music is electronic. As that was out because I drove there, at least I have the self-confidence at this age to just leave when I'm bored and my eardrums are ringing.
So if you went to my high school and graduated in 1998 and didn't show up, I blame you. Please send me $88.

Dude, that sucks. Mine's later this month, and I'm kinda worried because I don't really think I've gained that much more self-esteem than I had in high school, which is a sad, sad fact. Fortunately I'm much better at fake bravado. I'm not sure if it would be better to drag Mike along and make him suffer too or not.

88? Blech.
High school reunions aren't affected by inflation...
Are they?

I definitely recommend bringing the husband if you go. Mine got me an extra chicken breast.
Mostly I'm disappointed because even though a lot of my friends weren't in my year, I really miss seeing the ones that were in my year that didn't show. I guess that means extra thanks to the folks I know who *were* there.
I think I hung out with too many weirdos that didn't put any stock in that "high school experience" crap. It's a nicer explanation of how I couldn't find a single person to drag to the junior prom than "YOU'RE UGLY AND NOBODY LIKES YOU."

$88 for that. Pfft, see, I don't seem like such a fool for avoiding it.

Nobody else we knew showed up? ;_;
I think most of our friends just feel really awkward at certain types of social events involving fancier clothes, loud music, etc--especially if they don't have a partner to go with. I'll be the first to admit to that, although that wasn't why I didn't come. ("You mean, I have to come in to work on Saturdays to meet the deadline?!?")
