Boys II Men spent 80% of their songs whining! It sounded really good, but they were whining! (I know, I listened to a lot of Boys II Men)

Dude, 'One' is about the potential breakup of the band while they couldn't record anything in Berlin. U2 is a silly band, but I don't think they're whiny.
As for Boyz II Men, the number of people I know who are R&B fans is limited to two, but this is the gist of the response I got the last time I tried to say that R&B was whiny (this was not specifically about Boyz II Men. I believe I was complaining about some other group I can't remember blasting out of Winamp):
"WHINY?! Rock is whiny. Overprivileged white guys from the suburbs are emo and whiny. R&B has SOUL. You know nothing. Get away from me you banana sellout." *stabs me repeatedly in the face*
