Bare foot

This has been the first week without the giant Megaman boot.

It's a little like learning to walk again. I took a very slow half mile on the treadmill and it was then that I noticed how much I list to the right. When I tried to even out my gait, my left leg shook under me with every step. My calf is very sore now, but it's a good kind of sore. (= Hopefully my legs will be the same size again soon. I'm looking forward to being back up to normal operation.

It made me realize how difficult it must be for my Dad every day, because he has nerve damage to his legs that makes it difficult to walk. Of course, for him, it isn't temporary, and there is no boot that eventually comes off and lets him get back to operating at the level he'd like.

While I can't say that this made me understand my father any better, because what person really knows what it's like to be another? This week made me realize what a complex and wonderful ability walking is. And made me think about how I love my father very much.

Dirty Day Disturbed

While I once found the subtle smell of my honey and almond lotion appealing, I now find it disturbingly reminiscent of Play-Doh while I am trying to make my lunch. Icky-poo.

Speaking of things that were probably meant to be appealing, does anybody else see those billboards for iPods that are everywhere and think those silhouette people look like they are in mid-electrocution by their handheld music players?

All the noise and the hurry

There were five crazy people on the 38L bus at once today, which sets a personal record. They set each other off in a chain reaction too, which all took place in the first 10 rows of seats.

First the homeless muttering black guy took off his shoes, which set off the crazy Chinese lady, who started shouting "Shoe! Shoe!" the rest of the trip in between rapid sentences of Cantonese, and who kept pulling her jacket over her head and sticking her hands out the bus windows. That in turn set off the crazy white lady with the book, who pointed and laughed laughed hysterically the remainder of the trip downtown, setting off the two old black guys sitting next to me, who spent the rest of the trip elbowing one another and shouting about rib sandwiches.

It's certainly less boring than sitting in traffic.
