I went clubbing with some friends last Friday night for the first time since I moved to SF.
It was great! I can now say with certainty that should I ever go clubbing in San Francisco again, it can only be better than that club.
I understand that I have somewhat eclectic music tastes (dancing to really loud psytrance is not everybody's idea of fun) but I'm generally able to accept most types of beats save a few.
And I do like loud music. I think that a heavy beat that you feel in the pit of your stomach is vital to getting the whole cathartic thing on and getting into the dance.
I am not into music played so ridiculously loudly that I can't hear myself shrieking in the ears of the folks I've just met, while I have earplugs in, while we sit at the furthest table from the dance floor.
And I really, really don't like hollow fake pop gangsta rap/hip hop. I like underground hip hop. I like rap. I don't like poser music. It's very much like listening to vapid top 40s and pop songs, only with more obscenities.
And really, if you're DJing in a club in the middle of Chinatown, what on earth could possess you to play
All you white girls and you skanked up HOS
Getcho skanked up booties and yo pussies onna FLO
... which I swear was an actual lyric that I heard on the dance floor.
Then they started 'My Humps', which is when this skanked up ho walked her vagina right off the dance 'flo'.
From now on we are only going to clubs and pubs that I choose so if things suck, I can at least kick myself to vent.

Speaking of dancing to bad gangsta rap, we're having a party Friday (the 9th). Come on over!

I remember one party I went to at the Maritime Hall, two Asian gangs started fighting below the DJ booth and as if it was choreographed, the DJ dropped Everybody was Kung-Fu Fighting. Seriously though if you want good music check out Ruby Skye or 1015.

Eep.... Ruby Skye. I remember when I went there, all the straight guys were giving me the evil eye, as though I was going to steal their girl away and they wanted to punch me for it. Then, during the only moment of the evening where my friends were not around (split between smoking and pottying, I think), two mousy little girls came up and started hitting on me. "My friend wants to know how tall you are..."
Coincidentally, the only other straight club I've been to in SF was 1015 Folsom, which was also hilarious. When we got there, there were three women on the dance floor, dancing their hearts out with plenty of space. Surrounding them was a huge circle of guys, holding their drinks and gawking and some bobbing their heads, in an attempt to look cool or something. Oh, any the shinyshirts were everywhere.
I am terrible at clubbing. But the stories afterwards make me laugh, or at least give me insight into human mating rituals.
